MAH STRAY CATS
DIE STREUNENDEN KATZEN DES MAH

In einem dreiteiligen Projekt untersucht, erforscht und eignet sich Katharina Hohmann die Katzen des Genfer Musée d’art et d’histoire (MAH)-Sammlungen an: es entsteht eine Plakatserie, eine Katzenklappe wird im Museumsportal installiert und eine Publikation schliesst das Projekt ab. Anfang 2026 werden die Tiere zu Protagonisten von Collagen, die im gesamten Stadtgebiet verteilt sind und an die Ästhetik von „Katze-vermisst“-Plakaten erinnern. Die Katzenartefakte, Bilder und Zeichnungen (die meisten von ihnen schlummern in den Museumsdepots) offenbaren in ihrer Vielfalt ihre Fremdartigkeit, ihre historische und gegenwärtige Bedeutung. Gleichzeitig evoziert eine Katzenklappe im Eingangsportal des MAH –zwischen Trompe-l’œil und Ready-made – die Durchlässigkeit der Museumssammlung und unterstreicht die Fragilität des Museums als Institution. Abschließend wird eine Publikation das Projekt abrunden, diese Untersuchung fortführen und die Geister der MAH-Katzen heraufbeschwören.

MAH STRAY CATS
In a three-part project, Katharina Hohmann examines, researches and appropriates the cats from the collections of the Musée d'art et d'histoire (MAH) in Geneva: the result is a series of posters, a cat flap installed in the museum portal and a publication to conclude the project. In early 2026, the animals will become the protagonists of collages distributed throughout the city, reminiscent of the aesthetics of “lost cat” posters. The cat artefacts, pictures and drawings (most of which lie dormant in the museum's depots) reveal their strangeness and their historical and contemporary significance in their diversity. At the same time, a cat flap in the entrance portal of the MAH – somewhere between trompe-l'œil and ready-made – evokes the permeability of the museum collection and underlines the fragility of the museum as an institution. Finally, a publication will round off the project, continue this investigation and conjure up the spirits of the MAH cats.

Gemeinsam mit Seraphina Lenz:
Gewinn des Wettbewerbs Seeachse in Cottbus!
9 Künstler:innen bzw. Künstlergruppen wurden eingeladen, eine öffentliche Skulptur für eine Industriebrache eines ehemaligen Braunkohleabbaugebiets, in der Nähe von Cottbus, zu entwickeln. Unser Vorschlag AUS DER SPUR wird im Jahr 2024 realisiert.

Together with Seraphina Lenz:
we won the Competition Seeachse in Cottbus!
9 artists or groups of artists were invited to develop a public sculpture for an industrial wasteland of a former brown coal mining area near Cottbus.
Our proposal AUS DER SPUR will be realized in 2024.
